‘Don River Day’ Environmental Holiday
From 11 to 16 May 2026, The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Rostov Region, the Rostov Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, the Wild Nature of the Steppe Association, and the Rostov Directorate of Specially Protected Natural Areas of Regional Significance in conjunction with local municipal and district administrations held a number of themed environmental events in accordance with the action plan for Don River Day in the Rostov Region that included volunteer community work to clean up littoral zones, festive events tailored to the Don region, competitions, and environmental lessons. A Blue-Eyed Cossack Don flash-mob event was held in pre-schools and general education institutions.
Ministry personnel hosted an environmental lesson titled ‘Clean Air for the Health of All’ at the Starocherkasskaya Secondary General School in the Aksay District as part of the Ecological Well-Being National Project’s Clean Air Federal Initiative. The lesson was attended by 25 first and second graders.
On 16 May 2026, the Ministry teamed up with the Aksay District Administration to hold the Don River Day’s main event in the village of Starocherkasskaya, with a community clean-up, performances by local performers, a trivia game with prizes for those taking part, and a field kitchen.
