Ecological Tourism: Status and Prospects to be Discussed at 10th Nevsky International Ecological Congress

The 10th Nevsky International Ecological Congress will take place in St. Petersburg on 25–26 May. The main theme of the Congress is ‘Ecology: A Right, Not a Privilege.’

Congress opening day will feature a business programme session entitled ‘Ecological Tourism: Status and Prospects’ during which experts will discuss the harmony between recreation and the environment that forms the basis of the ecotourism that has become so popular in Russia. The ideology behind environmental protection and the rational and responsible use of natural resources is an essential part of what it means to be mindful of our own resources and health and create a system of values based on a healthy lifestyle and respect for tradition. Discussion will also touch upon the mechanisms and instruments of state support available for the development of ecotourism.

“The environment is a cornerstone development issue for many regions, countries, and international companies and a major part of international cooperation and collaboration. Trends around green energy development, environmental programmes, emission reduction, and compensation for the damage caused to nature by previous generations have created opportunities for related industries,”Chairman of the Committee of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Tourism and Tourism Infrastructure Development Sangadzhi Tarbaev said.

The session will also focus on other aspects such as successful national ecotourism projects and programmes and the creation of international tourist destinations, products, services, routes, and the accompanying infrastructure and interaction with stakeholders (travel agencies, tour guides, event organisers, and educational institutions among others) for the purpose of organising tourism within protected areas.

The 10th Nevsky International Ecological Congress is being organised by the Government of the Russian Federation, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, with the Roscongress Foundation operating the event.
